We gathered ourselves and had a talk. Time to begin the nanny search. Long story short, we ended up interviewing 2 lovely women on Sunday and one was a great match. She is available the days we need her, has a very similar child rearing approach to ours, and she will be bringing her 16 month old son with her. This is the perfect answer to our concern that Julian would not have enough time with other kids if we were to go the nanny route. We'll get a little help around the house, as well as the nanny part, which will help us out a great deal. I realized this fact when we had (turkey) hot dogs on spelt tortillas with rice cheese (no, really we did...) 3 times last week.
Overall, I am actually relieved with the way it worked out. I was pretty worried that there would not be enough close supervision with the first day care arrangement.
A big thanks to all my girls who put the word out and rallied to help us come up with a plan.
Julian's birthday weekend was hectic and so fun. My family was here and we had a small bagel-o-rama with a few of Julian's friends on Sunday.

(that's me and my sis...)
One of my closest friends, whom I have known since college, just adopted a baby from Portland, and spent much of last week in and out of the house while she and her husband were finalizing the paper work. The baby is beautiful, and has been named Zinnia. Welcome, Zinnia!!

And last, but NOT least, we finally got rid of the Jeep. For all of you that know us well, you know this has been a bit of a sore spot for, um, a while. My kind, wonderful, sweet, helpful husband, bought said Jeep from a friend that was moving and didn't have time to sell it. It was a "great deal" only $500. The catch was that it didn't run. The friend had driven it out of oil. However, being a classic and all (1985 Jeep Wagoneer with faux wood panels, a "Woody", who could pass that up?) Jon decided to have a new engine put in and then sell it. Well, he had it done, then wanted to drive it for a while, even though he also had another classic car...then we got married, then it started to have a few problems here and there...well, by the time "we" got around to trying to sell it, the Iraq war had started, gas prices were up, and no one would touch the car with a 10 foot pole (even though it got a whopping 9 miles to the gallon...really people, how LAME.) Then the tax law for donating cars for book value expired, and, and, and... the car sat in front of our house until tonight. We gave it to a Catholic charity that Sharon saw an add for in the paper. It goes to a needy family, and will actually be used, so we can write it off for the book value. So overall, we will only lose about $4,000 on the car. Lesson learned? We'll see...
B'bye!

Turtey hot dog on spelt tortillas with rice cheese? You didn't need to hire a nanny, you need to hire a personal chef!
Just so you know what you have to look forward to today (on my day "off") we went to a birthday party at a local park where both my boys got into the creek, got covered with some sort of foul smelling slime and caught dead crawdads (mmmmmmmm), then we went to soccer and baseball practice, came home to dinner - during which we got a call to inform us that there is head lice going around the kindergarten...and tomorrow I start all over again!
Hugs to you and John,
Jacqueline
Glad you found a child care situation that works. That is such a stressful issue to worry about.

I didn't even know they made spelt tortillas (love me some spelt crackers but having a hard time translating that into a soft tortilla in my mind) and what the heck is rice cheese? I have a feeling eating at your house would be an educational adventure (and a healthy one at that)!
Congrats on the nanny - sounds like a great situation!
Huh huh, you said "woody:. Huh huh...
